Áno, je to už 90 rokov od prvého závodu do vrchu na trati Brno - Soběšice.

Yes, it is already 90 years from the first hill-climb race on Brno – Soběšice track.

Začneme trochu  históriou. 4.februára 1923 došlo k založeniu Československého Automobilového klubu pre Moravu a Sliezsko, ktorého 1. predsedom sa stal Tomáš Baťa. Počiatočné kroky mladého klubu do sveta boli veľmi ťažké. Nechýbalo ale zapálených nadšencov pre prácu v klube a preto rok 1924 začínali už dostatočne rozrastení. V tomto roku tiež obdržal mladý klub krst ohňom. Usporiadal na tú dobu dva veľmi úspešné závody.  Dávno už predtým sa uvažovalo, že by mohol byť v tesnej blízkosti Brna usporiadaný nejaký automobilový pretek, ale ako vtedajšia móda vyžadovala, do vrchu.

Let´s start with a little bit of history. On 4thFebruary 1923 the Czechoslovakian Automobile club for Moravia and Silesia was founded and Tomáš Baťa became the first chairman of the club. The first steps of the club entering the big world were hard. But there was enough of enthusiastic fans who were willing to work in the club and already in 1924 the number of members increased. In this year the club organized two races that became very succesful. Long before it was considered that an automobile race could take place near Brno and according to a fashion of that time, it should be a hill climbing race.

Dlho bola hľadaná vhodná trať, kým sa usporiadatelia nezamerali na okresnú cestu z Kr.pole do Soběšic, ktorá bola nakoniec zvolená za oficiálnu trať na prvý medzinárodný závod Brno - Soběšice 1924. Vďaka zanieteným ľuďom z Veterán Automoto klubu Brno a množstvu sponzorov či dobrovoľníkov sa mohol závod postupne obnoviť a od roku 1999 sa pravidelne jazdí, ako spomienková jazda historických vozidiel v poslednú sobotu septembra. Pre obrovský záujem museli organizátori štartovné pole obmedziť rokom výroby. Aj tak sa tu však každoročne zíde okolo 350 fantastických strojov rôznych značiek. Dajú sa tu vidieť tie najfantastickejšie skvosty pretekárov  z  celej Európy. Každoročne sa sem vracajú závodníci predstaviť to najlepšie z histórie motorizmu a aj tento rok sa tu stretlo množstvo krásavcov rôznych značiek. Najsilnejšie zastúpenie mala značka Ariel s počtom 26 motocyklov, čím potvrdila dlhoročné dominantné postavenie v štartovom poli. No nechýbali Nortony, BSAčky, Račky, Baworáky či Tatry, Aerovky, Bugattky alebo aj iné málo známe značky.

A search for an adequate track began and soon the organizers concentrated on a local road from Královo pole to Soběšice, which was later chosen as an official track for the international 1924 Brno – Soběšice race. Thanks to the enthusiasts from Veterán Automoto club Brno and many sponsors or volunteers the race could be then brought to life again in 1999. From that year the race is organized as an annual memorial ride of historical vehicles every last Saturday of September. Due to a huge interest of riders the starting field had to be reduced by a production year of the machines. Nevertheless every year around 350 fantastic machines of various brands gather here. Many breathtaking jewels of european racers may be seen here. Every year the racers return to this race to show the best from the history of motoring and even this year many beautiful machines of many brands showed up. Ariel brand was represented the most frequently with 26 motorcycles and it confirmed its dominant position in the starting field. But of course also Nortons, BSA, Rs, BMW or Tatras, Bugattis and also some less known brands were not missing.

Toto stretnutie priaznivcov motorizmu je tiež výstavou nádherných kostýmov. Stalo sa už tradíciou, že prísť na Soběšice v rifliach je neslušné. Krásne upravené dámy v nádherných róbach kontrastujú s ušmudlanými  závodníkmi a skvelo ladia s tým či oným veteránom a umocňujú skvelú atmosféru.

This meeting is also an exhibition of beautiful costumes and outfits. It became a tradition that it is not polite to come dressed in jeans to Soběšice race. Beautifully dressed ladies in outstanding costumes are in a contrast with racers covered with dust and oil and they all together suit their old timer machines making the atmosphere even stronger.

Je sa tu naozaj na čo pozerať. Často sa stane, že treba to či ono pritiahnuť a tak nie je núdza o divadlo spojené s opravami najrôznejšieho druhu. Soběšice sú sviatkom aj pre množstvo fotografov lemujúcich uzavretú trať a bažiacich po najlepšom snímku. Aj preto sa zábery z trate objavujú na serveroch z celého sveta. Naozaj skvelé divadlo. Tu si každý príde na svoje a kto tu raz príde, už sa sem vracia pravidelne. Pretek ako taký je rozdelený na rýchlosť a pravidelnosť. V štartovom poli sa tento rok stretli jazdci na strojoch od roku 1910 až do 50 rokov minulého storočia.

There is so much to see. Now and then something needs to be tightened on the machine and so a great theatre of various repairs on the road take place. Soběšice race is a feast for the eyes and also for the cameras so numbers of photographers may be seen along the track. That is why the photograps could be seen on the web sites around the world. Really a great show. Everybody can find something to enjoy and once you come here, you will definitely return next year. The race is divided to a speed and regularity part. In the starting field the riders met on the machines produced from 1910 to 1950.

Organizátori aj práve preto oceňujú len najrýchlejšieho a najpravidelnejšieho jazdca. Ostatné ocenenia venujú zúčastnené kluby a absolútneho víťaza losujú organizátori  z veľkej krabice na klobúky. Každý má šancu získať tú najvzácnejšiu cenu. Keď v roku 2012 vytiahli z klobúka číslo môjho Ariela mal som úžasnú radosť, veď je to šanca tak raz za 300 rokov. Stalo sa však nečakané a tento rok opäť putuje cena na Slovensko, keď šťastná ruka malého dievčaťa vytiahla číslo Mariana Daníška na motocykli Zundap K600 ,,Gratulujeme"

That is why the organizers award the fastest rider and a rider who comes to the race the most regulary. Other prices are from the clubs and the name of absolute winner is then drawn from the hat box. Everyone has a chance to receive the most valuable award. When they drew a number of my Ariel back in 2012, I was so excited. The chance is maybe once in 300 years. And this year something unexpected happened when a number of Marián Daníšek with his Zundap K600 motorcycle was drawn from the box and so the award goes to Slovakia again.

V pravidelnosti bol najlepší Slovák Rhet Košábek na motocykli Ariel Red Hunter 500 (10 miesto pravidelnosť) tiež gratulujeme. Rýchlosť patrila hlavne mladším  strojom značky Norton,  no na treťom mieste sa umiestnil Karel Kupka s  Rudge -Whitworth Ulster r.1934,

The regularity award went to Rhet Košábek from Slovakia on his Ariel Red Hunter 500 (10th place in regularity) and we congratulate him. The speed award belonged more to younger Norton motorcycles, but on the third place was taken by Karel Kupka with his 1934 Rudge – Whitworth Ulster,

mimochodom jeden z tých ktorým môžeme ďakovať, že závod Brno - Soběšice je tu stále a my sa môžeme kochať tou nádherou, čerpať inšpiráciu a nasávať do seba všetku tu dobrú atmosféru. Organizátorom prajem veľa zdaru pri ďalšej práci. 90 rokov nestačilo!!! Je to ako droga. Už dnes sa teším na ďalší ročník.

who is one of those to whom we can be thankful that the Brno – Soběšice lives on. Thanks to people like him we still can enjoy the beauty, get new inspiration and inhale all of that fine atmosphere. I wish the organizers a good luck with their work. 90 years just were not enough!!! It is almost like a drug. I cannot wait till the next year race.
