Na Jeseň 2016 som sa pohrával s myšlienkou návštevy niektorého pobrežného miesta našej krásnej Európy. Mohlo by to byť zaujímavé preskúmať pre mňa neznáme zákutia z množstva prímorských destinácii. Nechcel som sa potĺkať preplneným pobrežím Chorvátska v letných horúčavách, a ani som nechcel moknúť na chladnom severe. Nie že by mi počasie nejako extrémne vadilo,  ale pre tento výlet som chcel niečo pokojné so stálym počasím. 

In autumn 2016 an idea was playing with my mind to visit some place on the coast of our beautiful Europe. It could be interesting to explore some of the seaside destinations that are still unknown for me. I didn´t want to roam through the busy coast of Croatia in summer heat and even the cold rainy north was not an option. It is not that I am extremely obsessed with weather but during this trip I wanted something calm with stable conditions.

Skúsil som teda načrtnúť túto tému pri jednej káve  ,,a hľa! Veď v tom nie so sám."   Už pri prvom náznaku sa v Paťovi prebudilo srdce moto turistu, ktorý mi rozprával príbehy z dávnej dovolenky na Sardínii. Príbehy o skvelom asfalte, prázdnych no neskutočne kľukatých cestách, nekonečných výhľadoch a temperamentných ľuďoch , ktorý dokážu pre siestu zatvoriť aj čerpaciu stanicu hoci na štyri hodiny. Pri slovách  ,, určite by som sa tam chcel ešte niekedy vrátiť " som vedel, že už nie som sám. ,, A to ešte keby sa nám podarilo prebrázdiť Sardíniu  na našich veteránoch, to by bola iná paráda. "  

I tried to mention this topic during one coffee break and there I had it...I am not alone with it. Already with first words a great heart of moto tourist woke up in Paťo and he kept on telling me the stories from his long gone holiday in Sardinia. The stories of fantastic paved roads, empty but unbelievably curvy roads, neverending views and a high spirited people who are able to close the gas station even for four hours during the siesta. With words „I would surely love to go there again“ I already knew I am not alone. „And also if we would manage to roam through Sardinia on our old timers, that would be amazing.“

Sardínia spĺňala všetky naše požiadavky. V máji je tam stále počasie s teplotami tesne nad 20 stupňov, je to ešte pred turistickou sezónou a ceny ubytovania sú v tom čase veľmi priaznivé. Snáď len teplota mora by mohla byť o niečo vyššia. Sedemnásť  stupňov sa mi zdalo trochu málo. Myšlienku absolvovania celej expedície po vlastnej osi sme však museli zamietnuť, časovo by sa nám to priveľmi predĺžilo. Cesta dodávkou na ostrov sa javila rozumnejšou verziou. Dokázali by sme zo sebou nabaliť aj množstvo náhradných dielov a iného vybavenia. Určili sme si teda predbežný termín na máj 2017 a nechali sme to uležať. Už v zime však prišlo pozvanie od Talianskeho Ariel klubu na ich rally. ,, Paráda , to je iná náhoda , veď oni si naplánovali  prejazdy práve v okolí našej pomyselnej dovolenky. Určite ich pôjdeme navštíviť aspoň na 2 dni." Spresnili sme teda náš májový termín na 1. mája, aby sme dokázali byť aj s našimi Talianskymi priateľmi.

Sardinia met all of our requirements. The weather in May is stable there with temperatures slightly above 20 degrees Celsius, the timing is ideal also because it is before the tourist season begins and the accommodation prices are friendly. Only the sea temperature could be a little higher. 17 degrees Celsius seemed a bit cold for me. We had to reject an idea of travelling the whole trip on our bikes, it would just take too long to get there. Travelling to an island by van seemed more reasonable. We also managed to pack a lot of replacement parts and other equipment. So we set an approximate date to May 2017 and let it rest for a while. But already during a winter the invitation from Italian Ariel club arrived to join their rally. „Cool, what a coincidence, they planned the transit points exactly around our trip destination. We will surely go visit them at least for two days.“ So we precised our May schedule to 1st May so we can meet our italian friends.

Ak ste niekedy plánovali takýto výlet tak určite viete, že stačí len začať a zrazu sa k vám pridávajú ďalší. Nie vždy sa to všetkým ktorí sa chcú zúčastniť podarí, ale vždy sa nájde niekto, kto zdieľa s vami podobné myšlienky a sníva o rovnakých zážitkoch. Takto sa teda aj k nám postupne pridávali niektorý z našich priateľov, vždy zapálení pre rovnakú výzvu. V marci 2017 sme už boli desiati. Nerád jazdím v takto veľkej  skupine, tu sme však boli rozdelení na veterány, ,,kafáče", cyklistov a rezervné stroje. To sa mi javilo ako  dobré rozdelenie. Každá skupina si naplánuje svoje výjazdy a večer sa všetci stretneme na terase, budeme grilovať, preberieme kto objavil aké krásne miesta, prípadne si na druhý deň osvojíme trasu inej skupiny.

If you have planned such trip before you surely know, that all you need is to start and suddenly others will begin joining you. Not everyone who wants to come will join you in the end, but there is always somebody who shares the same thoughts and dreams of the same experiences. That is how some of our friends were joining us and were more and more excited about the same challenge. There were already 10 of us. I really don´t like riding in such a big group, but here we had old-timer riders, cafe racers, cyclists and some spare machines. That seemed to me as well distributed. Each group will plan their own trips and we will meet together every evening on a terrace, do some barbecue, discuss who discovered some nice places or we can use the same route as the other group did before.

Našli sme si teda dostatočne veľký dom s terasou, objednali trajekt z Livorna do Olbie, a 30. apríla sme sa troma, až po strechu nabalenými automobilmi vydali na 1260 km dlhú trasu k trajektu na náš vysnívaný ostrov Sardínia. Pri takto dlhých vzdialenostiach musí človek počítať aj s prípadným zdržaním na ceste a kedže trajekty na svojich pasažierov zväčša nečakajú museli sme počítať aj s časovou rezervou. Nič mimoriadne sa nám cestou neudialo a tak sme nakoniec rezervu využili na prehliadku mesta Pisa a jeho šikmej veže vzdialeného len pätnásť kilometrov od prístavu v Livorne. Jedna strávená noc na kolísavej posteli trajektu a svitanie nám už prináša pohľad na vytúžený ostrov.

So we found a house with a terrace that was big enough for all of us, we booked a ferry from Livorno to Olbia and on 30th April we took of in our three vans packed to their roofs. The journey to the ferry sailing to Sardinia was 1,260 kilometers long. With such long distances one has to count with a possible delay on the road and since the ferries usually do not wait for their passengers, we had to have some time reserve. Nothing unusual happened during the journey and so we used the time reserve for visiting Pisa town and its leaning tower just 15 kilometers from Livorno port. One night spent in a rocking bed of the ferry and the sunrise brings us a view of our island.

Ako základňu sme si zvolili dedinku Matta e Peru medzi mestečkami Posáda a Budóni asi 40km od Olbie. Nízke, zväčša ešte neobývané domčeky tu čakajú na začiatok turistickej sezóny a to je presne to čo potrebujeme. Neradi by sme niekoho obťažovali hlukom z našich motocyklov a na ulici je dostatok miesta pre naše autá aj motorky. Príjazd, všetko vyložiť  a potom sa uvidí. Naša túžba prevetrať stroje bola taká silná, že už prvý deň sme museli absolvovať krátky výlet.

As our base camp we chose a small village Matta e Peru between Posada and Budoni towns around 40 kilometers from Olbia. Low, usually uninhabitated small houses are waiting here for the beginning of tourist season and that is exactly what we need. We don´t want to bother anyone with noise of our motorcycles and also there is a lot of space on the street to park our bikes and vans. Arrival, unpacking and then we will see what next. We longed to ride on our motorcycles so much, that we had to take a short trip right away.

Celým východným pobrežím Sardínie sa tiahne cesta SS125, ktorá je miestnou pýchou a vyhľadávaným cieľom nejedného priaznivca motorizmu či cyklistiky. Stovky zákrut na nikdy nekončiacej ceste zo skvelým asfaltom a nádhernými výhľadmi do národných parkov, mierna premávka a na odpočívadlách čakajú reštaurácie s voňavou kávou, vynikajúcim syrom a olivami. Práve cestou SS125 tento rok viedli dve z troch ostrovných etáp závodu  Giro ď Italia.  Nám sa však pre bezpečnostné opatrenia a niekoľko hodinovú uzáveru ciest nepodarilo priamo pozrieť na tieto preteky, a tak sme aspoň neskôr absolvovali jednu z etáp, dokonca niektorí aj na bicykli.

Along the whole east coast of Sardinia leads SS125 road which became a destination sought after by many motorcycle riders, car drivers or cyclists. Hundreds of curves on an endless road beautifuly paved, offering beautiful views to national parks and a very light traffic. On the rest stops you may find restaurants where you can enjoy a fantastic coffee, cheese and olives. This year also two out of three stages of Giro d´Italia took place on this SS125 road. Unfortunately because of strict safety measures and several hours of the road closure we were not able to see the race. At least we took one of the stage later on and some of us even on bicycles.

Nielen pobrežím, ale aj vnútrozemím ostrova sa tiahnu krásne cesty. Mapa ktorú sme zo sebou priniesli mala zelenou farbou označené zaujímavé cesty s výhľadmi, a tak sme sa deň po dni vyberali rôznymi smermi. My na veteránoch okruh zhruba 170 - 250 km a modernejšie ,,kafáče" aj 500.

Not only the coast but also the inland of Sardinia is embroidered by beautiful roads. The map we have brought here with us had highlighted the most interesting roads with nice views. And so day after day we headed to different directions. We on our old-timers managed to do 170 – 250  kilometers and the more modern „cafe racers“ even 500 kilometers a day.

Večer sme sa vždy stretli na terase a prebrali plány na ďalší deň. V mnohom nám pomohol aj bedeker. Táto malá knižka poznala rôzne atrakcie a pamiatky ostrova, a s jej pomocou sme tak našli najstarší Európsky strom, olivu starú možno až 4500 rokov,či osídlenie tajomných Nuragov. Ich príchod na Sardíniu sa predpokladá okolo roku 1850  pred Kristom zo severnej Afriky a ich stavby - Nuragy, táto  megalitická architektúra neodmysliteľne patria k Sardínii.

Every evening we met together on the terrace and went through the plans for the next day. A tourist guide helped us in many ways. This small book offered different attractions, historical sights and using its information we were able to fint the oldest tree in Europe, olive tree 4,500 years old or the ancient settlement of mysterious Nurags. It is supposed they came to Sardinia around 1850 before Christ from north Africa and their buildings – Nurags, this megalithic architecture belongs inseparably to Sardinia.

Postupne sme otestovali miestnu kuchyňu, domácich predajcov zeleniny, ochutnali miestne vína a malú no veľmi silnú kávu. Okrem toho sme jazdili a jazdili a jazdili. Presne tak, ako sme to plánovali. Aj keď sme sa pozabudli prihlásiť, podarilo sa nám na dva dni zúčastniť už spomínanej Ariel rally, kde sme boli milo prijatí, za čo našim Talianskym priateľom veľmi pekne ďakujeme.

Step by step we tried the local cuisine, home grown vegetables, we tasted the local wines and also a small but very strong coffee. Besides that we were riding and riding and riding. Exactly how we planned it. Even though we forgot to apply we managed participate in the Ariel rally and we thank our italian friends for a very warm welcome.

A poruchy? Poruchy sa samozrejme tiež objavili, ale ako sa hovorí ,,čo ťa neodrovná, to ťa posilní" takže sme sem-tam aj trochu šróbovali, a potom zasa jazdili a jazdili a jazdili. Mne sa s Arielom z roku 1929 podarilo najazdiť po ostrove 1650 km a určite budem na Sardíniu spomínať len v dobrom. S jedlom rastie chuť, a už dnes hľadám destináciu do ktorej sa pôjdeme pozrieť v roku 2018, veď viete ako to chodí, stačí len začať plánovať a vždy sa niekto pridá.

And break downs? Break downs happened too of course, but as one could say „what doesn´t kill you will make you stronger“ so now and then we had to have our tools ready, but after that again we rode and rode and rode. I managed to ride 1,650 kilometers with my 1929 Ariel through the island and I will always have only the best memories of Sardinia. The more you eat the hungrier you get and I am so hungry for such riging. And so I am already searching for a destination to visit in 2018, because you know how it goes. All you need is to start planning and there is always someone who will join you
